Getting him out was only the first challenge.
Although a leash could be placed on him, walking was difficult because his enormous matted coat weighed down his small body and restricted his movement. He was taken to a pet hospital, where attention quickly turned to removing the dense layer of fur surrounding him.
The process could not be rushed. Severe matting can pull tightly against the skin, so the team worked carefully with clippers for several hours. Piece by piece, the hardened coat came away until the dog underneath was finally visible.
