For weeks, a stray dog wandered with a rigid plastic container locked around his head. What had begun as an attempt to find something to eat near a garbage area had turned into a dangerous trap he could not escape.

The container, described as a discarded mushroom spawn jar, had slipped over his muzzle and ears and become lodged around his neck. With his head enclosed, the dog could not eat or drink normally. Attempts to shake or scratch it loose had failed, leaving him increasingly weak while he continued roaming the area.

Residents noticed his condition and wanted to help, but the frightened stray refused to let people approach. A video documenting the rescue describes him surviving at least two weeks in this state, while the later account places the ordeal closer to three weeks. Either way, rescuers knew his condition had become critical.

Catching Him Without Making Things Worse

Trying to chase the dog was considered too risky. He was severely weakened, easily frightened, and unable to see or respond to his surroundings normally with the container covering his head.

Instead, the rescue team studied the area where he regularly appeared and prepared a humane wire trap. Food was placed as bait, using the smell to draw the hungry dog toward the enclosure even though he could not actually reach the meal.

Eventually, he stepped inside.

The door closed behind him, allowing rescuers to secure him without a frantic pursuit. After so many days of avoiding people, the stray was finally within reach of the help he needed.

At the veterinary clinic, the plastic container was carefully cut away from his neck. For the first time since becoming trapped, his face was uncovered.

His physical condition showed how hard the ordeal had been. The dog was extremely thin, with almost no body reserves left. Veterinary examination found no severe external wound around his neck, but prolonged starvation and dehydration had taken a serious toll. Ultrasound examination reportedly showed that his abdominal fat had been depleted, while blood testing revealed elevated kidney values associated with his dehydrated state.

The veterinary team began intravenous fluids to rehydrate him gradually and support his recovery.

Then came one of the simplest signs that life was beginning to return.

A bowl of fresh water was placed in front of him. Once he understood that he could finally reach it, the dog drank eagerly. After weeks of having one of his most basic needs blocked by the jar, drinking normally again marked the beginning of a very different phase.

Healing Meant Learning to Trust Again

Removing the container solved the immediate crisis, but the dog remained deeply frightened.

In a safe indoor space, he stayed close to corners, avoided eye contact, and trembled when people approached. His caregivers did not force affection or pull him into unfamiliar situations. Instead, they gave him room to make choices.

A behavior specialist used food to encourage him forward. Small treats were placed at short intervals away from his hiding place, creating a trail he could follow whenever he felt ready. The people around him remained quiet and low to the ground, allowing curiosity to replace fear little by little.

At first, each step was hesitant.

But with regular meals, water, medical care, and predictable human contact, the dog began leaving his corner more often. His body strengthened as he recovered from dehydration and hunger, while his reactions to people gradually softened.

The world that had once meant scavenging through discarded containers began to look different. Food no longer had to be searched for in garbage. Water was always available. Human hands no longer meant something to flee from.

In the days that followed, his personality became more visible as his health stabilized. Eventually, the once-frightened stray was adopted into a permanent home with someone prepared to continue giving him the patience and security he needed.

His rescue began with a dangerous piece of discarded plastic, but it ended with something far more ordinary: a dog eating, drinking, resting, and learning that he was safe.

The container was removed in minutes. Recovering from everything that came before took much longer. Yet with careful veterinary treatment and people willing to let trust develop at his pace, the stray finally moved beyond survival and into a life where he no longer had to search through trash for his next meal.
