The frightened dog stood in the desert with more than matted fur weighing him down. Tangled against his body was a heavy length of rusty barbed wire, its sharp points caught in his coat and embedded in his skin. Every attempt to move risked another painful pull.

For seven months, he had survived in the barren landscape while dragging that dangerous burden behind him. Somehow, he endured the heat, searched for scraps, and stayed beyond the reach of predators. But his condition was worsening, and the wire could not remain in place much longer without causing even greater injury.

Two local men had been watching for the elusive stray and leaving food to help keep him alive. Their concern eventually brought experienced rescuers from Hope For Paws to the area. Finding the dog was only the beginning. Getting close enough to save him would require patience, careful timing, and the cooperation of the people who had already been looking out for him.

One Chance to Bring Him to Safety
