For more than a day, a small white dog lay beside a Los Angeles roadway, pressed close to the curb while people passed nearby. Her face and legs were dirty, her body was exhausted, and she made no attempt to run when help finally approached.
The dog had reportedly been there for about 24 hours before someone contacted Hope For Paws. When rescuer Eldad Hagar arrived and found her, one detail immediately stood out: she was not simply refusing to move. She appeared unable to move.
Hagar approached slowly and reached toward her head. The little dog remained quiet as he touched her, offering almost no resistance. Her condition suggested that every movement hurt, so getting her off the street would have to be done with care.

A Blanket Became Her First Safe Way Out
Rather than trying to make Lady stand, Hagar carefully moved her onto a soft blanket and used it to support her body while carrying her to the vehicle. The goal was simple: avoid adding unnecessary pressure to an injury that had not yet been diagnosed.
At the veterinary hospital, X-rays confirmed the seriousness of the problem. Lady had a fractured pelvis. The injury explained why she had remained almost motionless at the roadside and why rescuers had been so cautious during transport.
Her coat was dirty from lying outside, but even cleaning her had to wait. She was in too much pain for an immediate bath. Instead, the medical team focused first on stabilizing her and beginning treatment. She received fluids and continued veterinary care while her body was given time to recover.
The exact circumstances that caused the injury were not confirmed. Rescuers believed she may have been struck by a vehicle, but there was no verified account of what happened before she was discovered.
